Digital X-Rays

What Is A Digital X-Ray?

Digital X-Rays are the most efficient way for us to see what's going on in your mouth. Instead of having to invasively enter your mouth with surgical tools to identify issues, we are able to painlessly view the problem areas and provide solutions.Digital X-Rays are increasingly replacing conventional dentistry practices. It is a common practice among seasoned oral care providers to conduct digital radiography images when the patient’s condition requires it. They are useful in getting a faster diagnostics, with fewer repetitions.

It provides a tool for better communication for a second opinion, and above all, it helps in reduced exposure of the patient to dangerous rays. It reduces radiation of up to 80% which makes it one of the most decisive advantages of such a system.

Dr. Larson's Take:

Digitized X-rays (Radiography) is an imaging technique that does not use a conventional film but a special film for taking images in real time. The image is taken through a special device which is then stored in a computer for later retrieval.

Radiography plays an important role in diagnosing different problems and treat them in time before they become major infections. A digital radiographic ray passes through soft tissues, and dense tissue absorbs it. The teeth and supporting tissues are dense that allows them to absorb the rays effectively and it passes through the gums and cheeks without any problem. They are very effective in tooth implant procedures.

Another name for x-ray is radiograph; it is an important part of dental care. Radiographs are diagnostic in nature, but they play a preventive role by assisting the dental care provider in directing various preventive treatment for the patient.

Advantages of Digital X-Ray

Sharper Image

This method of innovative radiography provides a much sharper image quality of the X ray images. It eliminates reliance on using films for storing images. This technology provides digital archiving features that are cost-effective and saves time. Sharp images are useful in cosmetic dentistry.

Environmentally Friendly

Digital radiography does not have harmful effects on the environment. It makes sharing the information stored easily as one practitioner can easily use email to send it to the patient or another colleague for further review.

Quality Control

Digital radiographic imagery has made quality control very easy. The quality control of the measurement parameters is in the hands of the dentist. Quality control involves devices which are tested and adjusted accordingly to avoid reading errors and other problems. Since chemical development of images is eliminated, the number of possible errors are significantly reduced. The quality control can be carried out by the trained dental staff with little effort especially when dealing with dental implants. With the help of X-rays, your dentist discovers defects in fillings, problems with the jawbone, or deep tissues between tooth and tooth root. Even defects in crowns and bridges, inflammation or cysts are no longer hidden. The digital x ray has made it easy to perform a live root canal. Depending on the patient's’ needs, only a single tooth is scrutinized with the help of the rays. Digital x-rays are minimally invasive and do not hurt. Repetitions due to developmental mistakes are not necessary.

Why are Digital X-Rays Important

To locate areas of decay that can’t be detected with a visual examination

To detect periodontal disease by investigating possible bone loss

To aid in the preparation and placement of dental implants, orthodontics and other dental work

To locate possible abnormalities such as cysts and oral cancer

As a patient, you benefit several times if your dentist is using digital X-rays. On the one hand, patients do not have to wait long for results: the long development time is eliminated because the dentist receives the image directly within a few minutes. Then the oral care expert can discuss the findings directly with the patient on the monitor for an affordable dental service.
